Marshall William Hortig
Prior to AHS I was at Fremont Elementary school and got to know a lot of you back then. I’m saddened to see that many I knew have passed on
In 1968, I received my BA in art, from California state university. I had considered teaching, but it was the time of the draft, so I joined the Air Force. Much to my pleasant surprise they trained me as a motion picture cameraman which I thoroughly enjoyed, except for a year flying aerial combat missions in South East Asia.
Totally loving filmmaking, I subsequently joined an audio-visual production company in Norfolk Virginia. 4 years later I became head of production for a renowned A/V production company in Toronto Canada. There I met and married Karen, a nurse and massage therapist. We have one daughter: Alison who is now living in Israel and has a son. We later moved to Kona Hawaii.
Sadly, Karen passed away in 2005. I retired and returned to Thailand where I had been stationed during the Vietnam War. In previous years I had travelled extensively in the US, Mexico, the Caribbean and once to India. My relocation to Thailand allowed me to indulge my wanderlust and love of photography. I’ve had the opportunity to travel throughout all the countries of South East Asia, plus Bali, Turkey, and several trips back to India which is my favorite travel destination. Underscoring my wanderings is my affinity for spiritual beliefs and practices, especially those of Asia. I’m also a food aficionado.
Married again, to a Thai lady who goes by “Cat” and has shared many of my travel adventures. I designed a East/West fusion house and we built it out in the country in central Thailand. Over the years we have created a pleasant tropical garden with a large lotus pond. This land is looked after by our Thai dog: Xena. Now, gardening is my passion, my exercise and my meditation. I am thankful to have mostly good health at age 75. Covid has made more international travel impractical. We also take care of Cat’s young grandson, and hope to spend as much time as I have, shaping him into a responsible young man. I would welcome hearing from old acquaintances and can be emailed at: falangsabai@hotmail.com
